Americana Coastal - finding my design personality

Because of the pending repairs on the home, I haven't been able to settle in. Signs of the old owners are everywhere, and I'm feeling anxious about making this place truly mine. So last weekend I decided to embrace the chaos...with or without drywall...and begin plans to get my home into shape - starting with my bedroom.

Finding what's "me"

My design and decorating has been a bit all over the place since I moved out on my own 10 years ago. My first apartment was a pre-war walk-up with tons of character. My second apartment was an industrial loft in an old department store. I tried to match my furniture and styles to each place, but that left me with furniture and accessories that range from traditional to vintage to urban loft.

I took a mental inventory of what I owned and looked at tons of pictures and homes on Instagram to sort through what I liked. I gravitated to all bright photos with cool color pallets, but hated how sterile decorating seems to be now. Enter my vintage vibes. It also helped to talk it out with good, patient friends who could sift through my design ADD.

I love traditional style; adding antiques and vintage finds give me an opportunity to add unique touches that make a room cozy. The idea of southern coastal started creeping in because I love bright and airy rooms . If you know me at all, you also know that I L-O-V-E a good trend. Buying wicker was something I thought I would never do...and now, well...my Target cart reminds me of my childhood home.

And the winning style is...

Erin Napier put it best on a recent episode of Home Town - my sweet spot for home design is Americana Coastal. I am hopeful that an eclectic combination of trendy, coastal and traditional styles give my home a modern, yet inviting feeling.
